The Control of Token-to-Token Variability: an Experimental and Modeling Study

چکیده
The articulatory token-to-token variability in the production of German vowels is investigated with simultaneous EMMA and EPG recordings. The potential role of physical constraints, such as the contacts between tongue and palate measured by EPG, and the biomechanical properties of the tongue, simulated with a 2D finite element model is evaluated. Our results suggest that the control of high front vowels makes use of the palatal contacts, while the variability of low vowels is essentially oriented along the main axis of deformation of the tongue, the high/front-to-low/back direction.

An Improved Token-Based and Starvation Free Distributed Mutual Exclusion Algorithm
Distributed mutual exclusion is a fundamental problem of distributed systems that coordinates the access to critical shared resources. It concerns with how the various distributed processes access to the shared resources in a mutually exclusive manner. This paper presents fully distributed improved token based mutual exclusion algorithm for distributed system. In this algorithm, a process which...
متن کاملToken-to-token variability in developmental apraxia of speech: three longitudinal case studies.
Variability in the speech production patterns of children with developmental apraxia of speech (DAS) was investigated in a three-year longitudinal study of three children with DAS. A metric was developed to measure token-to-token variability in repeated word productions from connected speech samples. Results suggest that high levels of total token and error token variability and low levels of w...
متن کاملThe influence of the palate shape on articulatory token-to-token variability
Articulatory token-to-token variability not only depends on linguistic aspects like the phoneme inventory of a given language but also on speaker specific morphological and motor constraints. As has been noted previously (Perkell (1997), Mooshammer et al. (2004)) , speakers with coronally high ”domeshaped” palates exhibit more articulatory variability than speakers with coronally low ”flat” pal...

متن کاملEstimating the Parameters for Linking Unstandardized References with the Matrix Comparator
This paper discusses recent research on methods for estimating configuration parameters for the Matrix Comparator used for linking unstandardized or heterogeneously standardized references. The matrix comparator computes the aggregate similarity between the tokens (words) in a pair of references. The two most critical parameters for the matrix comparator for obtaining the best linking results a...
